About the Author

Emma Hollingsworth is a Kaanju, Kuku Ya'u, and Girramay woman who grew up surrounded by the rich landscapes of tropical Far North Queensland.

Now operating from her home studio in Meanjin (Brisbane), her distinct creative practice is a striking reflection of her heritage.

By pairing vivid, contemporary designs with ancient cultural traditions, Emma’s work explores the journey of a young Indigenous woman paving her path in a modern world, navigating the unique trials, tribulations, and triumphs that go hand in hand with it.

The Meaning Behind the Pages

• A Visual Map of Childhood: Each page acts as a geographical and spiritual guide to the places that shaped Emma's youth, including Second Beach, Cardwell, Lockhart, and Budgebulla. The colouring lines weave together the stories of her ancestors with the living plants and wildlife of the north.

• Premium Creative Canvas: Published by Thames & Hudson, this book features heavy-weight, high-grade paper stock tailored specifically for creative expression. The sturdy pages are perfect for a variety of mediums, ensuring artist pencils, fine liners, vibrant brush pens, or light ink washes layer smoothly without bleed-through.

Mindful and Cultural Connection

• Interactive Storytelling: Far beyond a standard activity book, this publication serves as an educational bridge and therapeutic outlet. By bringing your own choice of colour to Emma's bold graphic lines, you are invited to slow down and reflect on the rich narratives behind every totem and landscape, making it an excellent resource for home relaxation or classroom sharing.
